Child Fatality Review (CFR)

Program Purpose & Goal

Child Fatality Review (CFR) is a systematic, multidisciplinary, multi-agency, review of unexpected child deaths with the purpose of prevention. The CFR team is composed of various community stakeholders with interest and expertise on child safety and welfare who examine individual cases of local child fatalities to gain a better understanding of how and why children die. The case review team aims to prevent future deaths by fostering new programs or policies, as well as updates to existing ones, to promote child health, safety, and protection. CFR meets quarterly and is mandated under COMAR.
