Child Fatality Review Team

Jump to:

Child Fatality Review (CFR) is a systematic, multidisciplinary, multi-agency, review of unexpected child deaths with the goal of preventing future deaths.

The CFR team is composed of various community stakeholders with interest and expertise on child safety and welfare. The team examines individual cases of local child fatalities to gain a better understanding of how and why children die. The case review team aims to prevent future deaths by fostering new programs or policies, as well as updates to existing ones, to promote child health, safety, and protection.

The Child Fatality Review Team meets quarterly, as required by Maryland law. Meetings are subject to the Maryland Open Meetings Act. However, all reviews of specific cases are conducted in closed session, as permitted by Maryland law.
